Martin Luther king gives a message of non-violence in the where do we go from here: chaos or community. He believes in this method but as he stated “non-violence resistance caused no explosions of anger - it instigated no riots -- it controlled anger and released it under discipline for maximum effect”. In controlling the anger that the community to a constructive demonstration King wants to show that the black community can be civil.  King believes in these non-violent movements, because it has worked for him for his purposes. King was looking for a legal equality, whereas Carmichael is aiming toward a separate society where the black community decided for themselves, and can protect their own needs.  However Carmichael and King express similar points when they refer to the black community feeling helpless in a society that overlooks their needs. These conclusions that both of these men present do have a common goal, this is to help the growth and prosperity off the black community. We the diving line between the two is drawn, it is when each has different means of getting to that prosperity.  King believes that continuing to pull back from the anger that consumes the community, and instead disciplining it to resistance is the more effective way to combat the white community. Carmichael believes that the anger is inevitable due to the conditions the black community faces on a daily bases. The black community cannot change their mentally when the system is continuing to bring then down, in the form of police brutality.  Carmichael overlooks what I consider an important point about King’s resistance idea,  and that is the power of guilt. I believe King’s work was so effective, because he got to the conscience of the white American society. Whereas Carmichael to an extend seems more racial in in this ideals. However Carmichael also makes a valid point, when he says “they're afraid because they'd be 'beat up,'...etc. It happens to black people inside the ghetto every day, incidentally”. Meaning that white society that is afraid of the ghetto, and they have no concern of the violence that occurs inside the ghetto.  This violence that is not repaired by the law enforcement, the police only terrorize this community. A community already inflicted with its own sociological problems.

  2. Hello. My name is Elaine. I am a student from ENG 101 with Dr. Justin Rogers-Cooper.

I enjoyed reading your blog. It shows me some good and strong points about King's and Carmichael's philosophies. Briefly, I learned that Martin Luther King highly considered that non-violent act such as marching was the most effective method and rational approach for African-Americans to fight for their rights. Skeptically, Stokely Carmichael had a perception that non-violence was a buzzword or common saying to prevent black people from defending themselves against the predominant violence used against them by white people. He thought it was unfair that one group of people are instilled into the idea of non-violence when themselves are the target of violence.
However, you could have made two points of the authors' views and what methods they will be using clearly from the beginning in your intro. This will make a strong thesis addressing the main topic sentences, so that the reader can keep up with your writing. Also, you could have used some of the useful templates from the book: "They say/I say". For Ex.: In this blog I will talk about the similarities and differences between Martin Luther King Jr. and Stokely Carmichael from Stokely Speaks and Chaos or Community. This will give a clear direction to the reader about whose/what you will be discussing about. Anyways, I liked the way you used the quotes and explained the meaning of each one, once again use some templates from the book. For instance, King says that, "non-violence resistance caused no explosions of anger". This quote is important because in today's society violence begets more violence and resisting to non-violent act is a good and better way to not adding more fuel to the fire, instead it will create a more peaceful society. This shows how non-violence is the best technique for African-Americans to be part of the change which is needed to take place in their lives. I suggest you use these patterns: In this blog I will discuss... This quote/citation is important because... This shows that/how...
Overall, you did a great job by addressing the authors' methods and expressing some of their ideas clearly, even if they were not both introduced in the beginning.
To make your work more concise and clear you should read your writing aloud and catch up some few grammar mistakes which will favorably improve your work. Also, revise the intro and make sure the thesis statement coordinate to each topic sentence.
I hope that my suggestions are somehow useful for you to get a better grade.
    Elaine Q.,
    Thanks.
